That's My Line

In this exercise, you will build a poem from a line or phrase found in another's "That's My Line!" poem. You can pick your line or phrase from any poem posted in this folder. How you use the pilfered line or phrase in your own poem is up to you. Post your new poem here for our plundering pleasure. If you want feedback on it, you may also post it on the critique board. Since we gotta start somewhere, I'll do the first little poem using the exercise title line. This gives you four lines/phrases to choose from. Agnes


That's my line
in the sand.
It always ends
where it began.

In The Sand

I keep the photograph
next to my bed.

Two big swoops, your
heart drawn next to mine,
eternally entwined.

Some nights I drown in salty tears
although more often
now, I seem to just
drift out to sea.

You stand,
touch my brow,
bend close, kiss
my cheek. Soft scent,
Tabu. So many
things unsaid
in the dark.

In the dark, she's Eve-
naked, free of inhibitions.
No fear. No shame.
Lost in paradise,
she's the first woman.
The only woman.

The Moment That Did Not End


Lost in paradise, we blow qi into a raft and go places.
Hear, listen to air on the river; the musicians
of nature. I find the depths of your silence. I breathe
your breath and kiss your neck. We are on another planet;
somewhere more beautiful than Earth. Before it ends, I do
all I can to help you feel more beautiful, I kiss your smile.
I love you, eye love you, i love u, more than possiblity; I breathe for you.

We exist, that's it; we feel what we want to.
We spin in circles with the water inside our eyes.
This is the moment; blood inside your beautiful soul.
Softer our love is wiser and more pure. We are.
Sapped in the this, we drink the mist of eternal paradise.

Hay

She rolls delightful--
a die cast in the dark,
beautiful shadow creature
no one understands.
We tumble, spin in circles,
come to rest. At last,
it is finished, the beer stale.

Beyond the Promontory


I pet my shadow creature,
Ristopher. He smiles until he
sleeps. I listen to him dream and
realise Ristopher needs love.
I feel sad and silly and get an idea.

As quiet as I can, I do some jedi moves,
he sleeps deeper. I carry him to my car,
and click the seatbelt for my sleeping shadow.
We go to my friend Regina's house, I tell her what I did.
"It's not safe to do that to your shadow, what are you
thinking?" I say, "I think your shadow is beautiful,
my shadow loves your shadow." Regina smiles and breathes,
her eyes overflow with water, softly, she whispers,
"My shadow loves your shadow too."

Little Brown Mouse

A die is cast--
I find myself on a bus stop bench
Destination unknown
A fast car slows, the window rolls
Hitch a ride to fun times
Odds stacked against, two to one
That's the way it goes
How was I to know
Cats on the prowl, and mousy me, just prey
I know just the place, on a hill, in the woods
Two doors in front, seats taken, and me in the back
Now it's three and a six pack, still the deck's stacked
This bottle neck - broken- may save me or rape me
So lay low, take it slow, better just to fold
When you've got a losing hand
My god these leather seats are cold
Finally they are done, got my poker face on
Naked and barefoot
A chance to run, but there's only dark
Between trees, or there's nowhere
Fear is a weakness
Fear gets your killed
Just get back in the car
Hitch a ride, roll the die
