My Relationship With Poetry

In one moment she's a dragonfly,
the next, an elephant that heals when she cries.
She has conversations with each and every poem
in my brown green orange black dashed eyes.

We travel galaxies, imagining being - the rest
and doing anything on other planets. Our imagination
laughs because we have the ability to be anything
go anywhere, since - we are together.

When I see or feel anything, she is with me,
listening, with or without senses. She is in the ocean
at my feet, the air I breathe, she comforts
whenever life hurts, it's her hope, her love

that gives me the ability - to be - closer.
O, and it's so deep. Our transparency
transcends telepathy. Tonight, we are
eagles making love in a safe storm sky,
drifting to a soothing sunrise.

Dolphin poems are soggy things.
It's not their fault; they don't have wings
to soar high above the salty seas
and float with the clouds beyond the mountains
across sun-baked deserts and tangled jungles.

Dolphin poems are funny things
full of strange whistles, puffs, and clicks
that tell tales of once upon a time
when their ancestors roamed the land
before they left it to live in the sea.

The question is: Where will they go next?

Perhaps they'll go to outspace--
just vanish *poof* without a trace.
No more, the long snout silver face.
No more, the gleaming charcoal grace.

It would be sad to see them go.
And sadder yet, to never know.
Maybe it's the way they'll grow.
Maybe in the sky,they'll glow.

Q: What do you see in the night sky?

Tenderness From Pain

In my eyes, you find all my suffering.
You believe I have infinite strength,
yet feel even more vulnerability. Through
the bliss, depressions, and embarrassing
moments - an awareness gives us peace.

We evolve wisdom and find enlightenment
when we forget the confines of society
and feel without fear. We fall
and fall, and drown until we grow gills,
stretched so far beyond our comfort zone
that we bawl because it hurts - just to be alive
as a bliss overcomes us, a bliss that never leaves us.

My poetry jumped off its paper
and ran across the floor.
It couldn't take the staring,
the way hunting eyes would bore

into each little crevice,
each loop of g or y.
It was so scared it ran for days.
You've made my little poem cry!

When Springtime comes
and the sun is high,
when birds drift lazy
in a cloudless sky,
when the muse departs
and your ink runs dry,
grab sidewalk chalk
and go outside.

The question is: What will you draw?

I'll draw grand gardens
on your sidewalk--
beguiling daisies
in colored chalk,
swirl orange and yellow
until neighbors talk.
You'll skip and twirl
instead of walk.

Jesus draws circles in the sand.
A circle of fear (my mind's mistake) creates the world
from twisted illusions of sin, guilt and fear.
This did not happen long ago, but now again and again,
for on this circle the world depends, and fear keeps my guilty illusion real.
It's guilt I choose and cast like stones,
while ego, the crazed monkey god on my back, hisses in my ear:
That's right. That's right. That's right. The sin is not in me.
Jesus understands what "always" means and draws circles in the sand
because love and guilt cannot coexist, and every judgment crucifies the son of God.
And still would I sleep, caught up in the dream world that I create
to dance with death alone in the dark.
Make no one fearful, for his guilt is yours. There is no one out there.
See no one as guilty, that you may be free.
Jesus draws circles in the sand and sees only light in me.

We have nothing to lose
Because you perceive everything.
All you have to do is be, that's all.
You have nothing to lose
Because all you will do
Is think a new thought
About what now brings,
And life will go on
(Even after you die).
In a new moment our focus
Has changed and we have
Lost nothing, we're all
Eating or sleeping
In new realities,
Gaining and losing,
Breath in breath out,
Nothing, everything,
Anything.

He told a whale of a lie
(the kind that makes some people cry)
about a sugared apple pie--
out of reach, up in the sky.

He said it floated past the sun
the apples baking, one by one.
And when it was finally done
that's when the world was begun.

(thinking Agnes may throw me out for that one ROFL)

So high & can't stop,
enter another planet,
slow down, as eye lashes
dance, every slow gasp
Ah, a. We put it all
together, a. It's another perfection
amongst every falling. We put
our lunch in a basket, Lamb, vino,
carrots, red bell peppers, hummus.
Kale quinoa yummies salad.

Crayons are about my speed.
Giant swirls and buzzing bees
surround each flower tall
and small. I add a leaf to one and all.
I draw the sun in bold, bright orange--
smiling, while fluffy clouds float by
in baby blue. Then, when everything
is in its place, I color every empty space.
And then erase.

Your love sneaks out at night
roams the streets and alleys
chases flickering shadows
between moonbeams
and star sparkle.

The question is: What do shadows know?

Shadows know the ins and outs,
the ups and downs, the where abouts.
They know the secrets in between,
the cracks in time, the space unseen.

Shadows leap and shadows bound.
They sometimes follow you around
or lead you on with stealth and grace.
They know your step and keep your pace.

Shadows creep and shadows crawl
into your mind, into your soul.
They sneak into your dreams at night,
extinguish every single light.

Q: What do secrets want?
