After reading this thread I realize I am falling behind in reading poetry. Aaack! So like a good little poet wanna-be I went surfing the net looking for inspiratiom and came across a few things. One I really like is Ted Hughes. He was British Poet Laureate and married Sylvia Plath. Really interestin...

Share your favorite classics...

Sometimes I find myself going back to a poem again and again. This one, for some reason, brings me back often and never fails to make me smile. Being a nature junkie, it is not really surprising that I am a fan of Wordsworth. I really like the way this one is crafted and how the rhyme just flows so ...

Congratulations Nate!

You've certainly made me feel at home already, even before the official robes. I'm sure you'll be an excellent leader for us.

Thank you Gary! I definitely want to apply for the closed group at some point. I will go back and look at the instructions tonight. I want to make sure I am totally committed to my writing before I submit - so I'll continue to play out here until I get up the nerve. I've spent a better part of this ...

Publishing Question

I recall reading somewhere (possible elsewhere on Zeugma??) that if you post a poem on the Internet where anyone can read it is considered by many publishers to be "previously published". Is that true? Even a workshop like this?

Thanks for any info.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to read your suggested links and then try to get one done and post it this weekend. I feel like a kid with a new toy to play with. :D Gary, obsession and madness huh? I just might like these. heh heh. I did post an attempt at a pantoum but I definitely need to work on that...

Every time I see my nameplate change over there I feel compelled to submit something in the form (hence, the "sestina help" post). I've actually heard of pantoum (hooray!) and attempted one long ago. Not sure I have the form right. As always, any feedback appreciated. This is my one and only attempt...

Sestina help

Hi. Well I had "sestina slinger" against my name for a while so I looked up how to write one and I understand the end word part of the form, but am not sure how to go about crafting from line to line. What I mean is I have no idea where it is or is not appropriate to line break. If anyone can shed s...

Well that's a bummer. I thought it was very good, so much so that I wasn't sure how to go about giving feedback. I was looking forward to seeing how those with experience were going to respond. ::: sigh :::

Inspiration

Where do you all get your inspiration for poems? I have trouble coming up with topics but when I'm given one I can usually write something. It may not be good, but you know, for practice. I want the inspiration to come from inside though, like bubbling up as something I want to write about. I guess ...

Thanks Lilith and Nate. I posted a Haiku but that was more out of silliness than seriousness. I'll post something with a little more substance shortly. I am not sure I'm really qualified to "critique" with my limited experience but I can certainly give my gut-response opinion. I don't want to offend...

Intro & How does this work?

Hi. I just joined today and am not quite sure how this works... as in etiquette, not the forum itself. Will someone please guide me? For an intro, my name is Kim - and I have not written a lot of poetry but I do love to play with words. I've tried a few pieces of form poetry in the past. Maybe I can...
