A poetry writing app

I have just discovered poetry apps, ones for iPad and iPhone. Probably there are similar ones for Android and computers. The ones I was looking at are free: Poetreat, which gives a running list of rhyming words for the rhyme scheme you put in, and Word Mover, which has a list of words that you can m...

Re: Self-publishing discussion

Lulu.com converts your files from Word to ePub files for free, so one submitted file works for both the paper bound book and the ebook. The margins are a bit tricky, but I read up on publication guidelines, and got it right in PDF format. The Word files shifted around slightly. The only thing that r...

Re: Self-publishing discussion

Dear Agnes, I don't know anything about Word Perfect, and I didn't buy any new software. I did not use their poetry book format. That would probably work best if all the poems in the book were very short. You could even have drawings in soft focus. I wanted my book of poems to look professiona...

Re: Self-publishing discussion

I published my book on lulu.com, going through a number of versions. Fortunately, it's very cheap to publish on this web site. Yes, you can order only one book at a time if you wish (or even none at all and just look at the PDF). Their web site is set up pretty well, although their tech support is a...

Re: Welcome Back Joan

Thanks so much, Kim. I see that you have stepped into the role of Moderator -- good for you! Yes, my surgery is over and I am feeling much better. They replaced the hip, femur, and knee. I haven't been writing any poetry but maybe being part of the Poetry Forum will stimulate my creativity. I'm real...

Book finished

Finally finished work on my book of poems. It will not be publicly available at this time, but if any of the regular writers here would like a copy, let me know.

Many thanks to all who have generously given comments on my poems over the years in the Zeugma forum!

Re: Members' Introductions

I am 61, married, we have 1 daughter age 30 who lives in Boston. We have lived near Seattle for five years, and before that we lived for 20 years at the edge of the Pacific, just south of San Francisco. I wanted to write poetry since about 5th grade but the drivel I wrote at that time didn’t satisfy...

Re: Quantity over quality? But it works

Good for you, riverwriter! I agree that there's something about keeping on writing that is good for the soul and good for the writing. Sometimes even when I write a poem I reject, there's one word or one thought that sticks in my mind, ready for using in a different poem, even if years later.

Cricket Music in the Darkness [good metaphor for the humanity still visible in the convalescent home] A twenty-four year old whispers in the convalescent home, "Perhaps I can help you, but my words will be like cricket music, or like the feeling of your feet on the ground or of your back agains...

Re: Toil and succour

Where do we all go
when our breathing is slow
and we close our eyes
nowhere at all, I would surmise.

We wake each new day
in the habitual way
and yet -- we're not the same:
that's the existential game.

Question: What do you see out your window?
